Tuesday, July 6, 2010 "Bail-Out Mountain"

We took the lower Picayne Gulch trail to what Charles has named "Bail-Out" Mountain since that is exactly what I did a couple of years ago.  (Only time I have ever jumped out of the Jeep).  At any rate, Jim drove up and I conquered my fears and drove down.  I hear it is summer somewhere, but it snowed on us today -- on July 6th!!!

Before we left, we saw a double engine train come into town (must have been an extra-heavy load!

The ride out of town along the Animas River is always beautiful.

Spotted this deer almost as soon as we turned onto the trail.  She looks pregnant.
We're trying to figure out how to get to this "house"

Looking back at where we were:

Snow on the switchback

The end-of-the-road!

How do these tiny little flower grow out of the rocks in this cold, cold weather?

Looking down and over at some of our favorite trails.
 Don't step backwards, Jane!

 Jane, Charles,& Jimmy contemplating life . . .

Yep, those are my size six shoes looking over the edge!

Interesting rock; too big to lug home.

 Following Charles back down
That's Charles & Jane standing in the road up ahead:
