Wednesday, it was still raining, so we visited the mining musuem in town. It is built into the side of a mountain in a cave, so was pretty cold in there. We learned some things about mining in the old days and newer techniques.
Miners climbed down the laddar; bucket carried the ore up.
The "honey wagon" went into the cave next to the lunch wagon!! Disgusting
It was cleaned out on Fridays.
Jim has talked about how much fun it would be to build a bicycle
to ride the abandoned train tracks around here.
Ta-duh -- here it is from the "olden ages" -- only -- it had NO brakes!
They stopped by pedalling backwards.
The assayers office
The town is right on the edge of where it all happened.
Just past that first outcropping, there is evidence of the old mines.
We stay in the same park, but have to move to a different site in the morning,
so the morning will involve some "putting away" and pulling in the slides, etc.
It will mean a later start to the day.
