Monday, June 7, 2010 ATTEMPT @ CLEAR LAKE & MINERAL CREEK

We headed for Clear Lake today.  We had heard it was not open past the big waterfall, and that was correct information.  We stopped at the waterfall and enjoyed the scenery.  Luckily, there is plenty of space to park & turn around at the base.  Jim drove up to the falls.  I drove back down and drove the roundtrip trail on Mineral Creek.   I drove thru several water hazards.  Maggie found snow drifts to run thru.  She had a smile on her face all day. I cannot tell you how many different waterfalls we saw today.  The snow is starting to melt & run.  (Remember you can click on any picture to see an enlarged version.  Use the back arrow to return to the blog.)

The Aspen trees have really turned a bright green since we have been here.

Usually, we can go on to this mine at the end of the road, make a sharp left and head towards the lake.  You can see the snowdrift all the way across the road and upward, so this is the end of the line for Clear Lake today.

This is the parking area near the falls.

We stopped off at this waterfall for awhile to chill out since we couldn't go any further towards Clear Lake.

Getting a little close to the edge:

Enjoying the view & having a snack.

Jimmy looking for "critters."  All we saw were marmots and chipmunks and they were in too much of a hurry to pause for a photo.

On the way back down:

Getting ready to head to the end of Mineral Creek

Jimmy checking the "water hazaard" before he lets me drive thru it.  I made this one okay.

We decided this one was too deep, and turned around.

I'm loving how green everything is turning!
