Today, we took Picayne and Placer Trails to California Gulch and ended up at Animas Forks, then followed the Animas Forks Road back to Silverton. The actual trail was probably under ten miles and took about two hours (not counting picture stops & picnic lunch) to complete. Elevation was about 13,000 feet.

This is all that remains of the Treasure Mountain Gold Prince Mining Company. The buildings have taken quite a beating since we first started coming out here.

As we leave Picayne to Placer, we leave the "forest" and travel a more desolate terrain.

You can see the old Sound Democrat mine below, established in 1899 and operational until 1914.
Not much green around here yet!
They are taking donations to restore this old Frisco mine.
Good luck with that -- I guess it's good to have goals.
